Record your screen with sound, then view and search the transcript.
How it works
- Record with sound. Go to Capture → Record Screen with Audio, then choose your voice, system sound, or both.
- Know when you’re recording. A 3-2-1 countdown starts the recording. The border is red while recording and amber while paused, with a REC timer in the menu bar.
- View the transcript. Right-click a recording → View Transcript. Click a line to jump to that point, search what was said, or edit the transcript.
- Choose a display. Hover over a display in the Capture menu to highlight that screen.

Read the full notes
Record with sound
Record your screen with your voice, your PC’s sound, or both. Choose what to include each time from Capture.
Transcribe on your PC
Right-click any recording or voice memo and choose Transcribe.
Transcription runs on your PC. No account is needed and nothing is uploaded. It also works with video and audio files you add to Tansei.
Follow and edit
The recording plays above the transcript, with the current line highlighted as it plays.
Click a line to jump to that moment, or edit the text directly without changing its timing.
Use Ctrl+Space to play or pause, Ctrl+Arrow to jump five seconds, or change the playback speed.
Add your own transcript
If Tansei cannot detect speech, type or paste a transcript instead.
Start a line with a time, such as 0:12, to link it to that moment. Without times, the text is still searchable. You can also paste subtitle files.
Export a transcript as subtitles or plain text and it is added to your shelf.
Search by what was said
When Search finds words inside a transcript, you can play the recording from that exact moment.
Trim video and audio
Trim the start or end of any video or audio file, preview the result, then save a copy or replace the original.
If there is a transcript, its timing updates automatically and anything you trimmed away is removed.
Search text in screenshots
Tansei reads text in images so you can find a screenshot by what it says.
Sensitive text, such as passwords or keys, is not stored. You can also right-click an image and choose Copy Text in Image.
Smaller improvements
- Recordings now show a still frame from the video.
- Pause and Stop are available from the taskbar thumbnail and notification area.
- Labels display in full at every text size.
- The filter now uses a funnel icon, matching the Mac app.

Choose what gets saved
Under Automatically save what I copy, choose whether Tansei saves links, images, and plain text. Files and colors are always saved.
Settings, now split into three sections
Settings are now organized into General, Capture, and Shelf, so things are easier to find.
Choose your text size
Choose Default, Large, or Larger in Settings.
More room for notes
The shelf widens while you write a note, then returns to its normal size when you are done.
Alt+Tab opens the shelf
Switch to Tansei with Alt+Tab and the shelf opens, ready to use.
The shelf stays put
It always returns to the edge of your screen, and everything fits however slim you make it.
